A complex interweaving of ridges and former glaciers formed banks of moraines which created the conditions for the lakes’ formation in the lonely mountain gorges... Ancient Panjikent could be compared with archaeological... Ancient Panjikent could be compared with internationally-famed archaeological sites such as Afrasiyab, Varahsha, Paikent...The valley, whose upper stretches reach to Mayakovsky Peak, cut into the monotonous grey of the Precambrian metamorphic and quartz rocks.
